Alex Hodge - Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin, Bass, Vocals
Alex Hodge is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist with over 37 years of music performance and teaching experience. Alex teaches 5-string banjo, mandolin, electric bass, and a wide range of acoustic and electric guitar styles in his home studio and at Kingstowne Acoustic Music in Alexandria, VA. A 'string wizard,' he has competed in the National Banjo Contest in Winfield, Kansas, placed first in the Santa FE, NM bluegrass festival band contest playing guitar, and has won awards playing bass in a jazz band. He currently performs around the Washington D. C. metro area on acoustic and electric guitars in the jazz/pop quartet, MelodiuM, and as a solo classical guitarist.
Alex earned a Bachelor's degree in Professional Music with highest honors (Summa Cum Laude) from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied guitar performance, songwriting, and arranging. He has completed coursework for his Master of Music degree in Guitar Performance at George Mason University, where he studied jazz guitar with Rick Whitehead and classical guitar with Larry Snitzler.
Alex holds two degrees from Indiana University in audio engineering. He has worked audio production for Huey Lewis and the News, The Lettermen, Eddie Rabbit, Crystal Gayle, Boxcar Willie, and for the United States Air Force Television Productions. Alex currently runs his own music recording studio, where he serves as house engineer and producer.
